Sprouted Barley Fodder:

Mid winter, one of the warmest and liveliest places to be, is the Barley Fodder Room. Tucked inside the barn, rows of lush green grass mats with tender entangled roots sit on brightly lit shelves. Though winter is the darkest time of the year, everything changes inside the fodder room. Sunny lighting and tall, green grass shoots surround you.
Each day, mats averaging 12 to 14 pounds each are harvested into a trailer and sent out to the pasture to feed the beef and dairy cows, sheep, hogs and horses. As soon as you are spotted, you had better be on your guard as cattle come on a dead run to this enzyme rich feed. Green grass is a welcome sight in the middle of winter!
While the animals are enjoying their grass, trays are cleaned and, loaded with soaked seed and set on shelving where they will be watered four times throughout the day. New seed is then weighed out, cleaned, skimmed of chaff and soaked for 24 hours in preparation for the next day's trays. Extra soaked and sprouted grain is taken to the chickens every morning.
Studies have indicated that Barley Grass improves overall health of animals through improved digestion, greater energy, strengthened immune system, and the grass's antioxidant properties. Sprouting increases digestibility, enzymes, essential fatty acids, and vitamin content as well as other important factors. During the first few days of sprouting, the barley retains its grain properties, making it wonderfully suitable for chickens as well as other birds. After this, it takes on the properties and digestibility of grasses making Barley Fodder an excellent feed for cattle and other ruminants.
